French Culinary Flair Wafting Through Houston
Houston Chronicle | Greg Morago
If you’ve noticed Gallic charm wafting through town as naturally as accordion music in a Left Bank bistro, you’d be correct in thinking that French culinary passions are trending in Houston.
It’s not just that everyone is drinking rosé, pining for steak frites and scooping spoonfuls of caviar. The French spirit – exemplified by an appreciation for the finer things and an effortless yet studied perfectionism – has taken hold. It even has its own soundtrack, as evidenced by the house soundtrack at the French-twist bar Victor, which blends disco, soul, funk, jazz and world beat into a frothy exuberance. Waiter, more champagne!
Back at Victor, as we settle down to some pâté and a glass of Dom Perignon, we consider even more French flair on the horizon. The Victor owners are taking over the former Café Azur space and creating a French restaurant, La Villa Saint Tropez.
