French concept opening in Zimm’s former location
A group of French businessmen have opened a new bar and lounge concept dubbed Victor — named after author Victor Hugo — in the former Zimm’s space at 4321 Montrose Blvd., according to PaperCity, the Houston Chronicle and Eater Houston.
The French baroque bar and lounge will host live DJs six days a week and offer a menu with cocktails, wine and light bites. The owners have transformed the space with a contemporary-meets-classic vibe, per PaperCity. They’re keeping Zimm’s wooden bar because it dates back to an 18th century castle in France.
Other elements of the space include banquets, lounges, chandeliers, drapes and walls with handcrafted brass inlays. Construction Concepts executed the owners’ design, per PaperCity.
The owners include Vincent Sinard, who owns a a real estate brokerage firm in Las Vegas, and Jean-Pierre Gleize, a nightclub owner and restaurateur from Toulouse, France. Meanwhile, Franky Boissy, a DJ and owner of San Francisco’s Pink nightclub, will be Victor’s manager.
The Chronicle also notes that the team has acquired the former Café Azur space, 4315 Montrose Blvd. They have plans to open a new French restaurant. News broke in January that Cafe Azur had been purchased by a French company.
